The Paul Zeer Fellowship

Dear Board, dear members of Ibn Battuta,

It is with great pride that we introduce ourselves as the newest fellowship within our beloved association: the Paul Zeer Fellowship. A fellowship born from tradition, brotherhood, and a healthy dose of beer.

The fellowship traces its origins back to the 46th and 47th Boards, when a name began to echo through the pubs of Groningen: ‘Paul Zeer’. A law student, not a member of Ibn Battuta, not even a student at our faculty, but someone who felt deeply connected to our Association through the unique board culture that Ibn has radiated for decades. Paul admired the commitment, recognizability, and presence of our Boards, and joined our drinks and constitution parties as if he had always belonged. His personal ritual? Exactly ten beers. A tradition that evolved into the legendary Paul Zeer Trophy – the Champions League cup of board rankings.

The Paul Zeer Fellowship consists of former board members who have once won this trophy. We are the guardians of a tradition that celebrates board life, shares experiences, and connects generations of Ibn members. Because while a board year enriches your character, skillset, network, and CV, it’s the social interactions – the drinks, the parties, the friendships – that truly make it unforgettable. And according to Paul Zeer, there is no association where this can be experienced better. In his own words: “You can join any board in Groningen and have a great time. But if you apply for the board of Ibn Battuta, the best time is guaranteed.”

That’s why we organize an annual activity inspired by the social and connective heart of board life: the constitution drink. At this event, you’ll get a taste of what a board year entails – both literally and figuratively. We promise you: a whole new world will open up, one you can explore for yourself. As Paul Zeer once said: “A  journey is exactly what a board year at Ibn Battuta represents, fitting for the namesake of the Association.”

We hope to welcome you to one of our activities soon. If you have questions about the fellowship, about board life, or if you simply want to find out whether you can handle ten beers – come talk to us. We’re ready with stories, advice, and of course, a cold one.

Kind regards and ten beers,
The Paul Zeer Fellowship
