W.J. van den Bremen lecture - Floris Alkemade

W.J. van den Bremen lecture - Floris Alkemade

Every year, Ibn Battuta organizes the W.J. van den Bremen Lecture in honor of professor Willem Jan van den Bremen (1931-2003). Prof. van den Bremen was dean of our Faculty and professor in economic and social geography. After van den Bremen had passed away, Ibn Battuta decided to organize an annual lecture in his name, to be thankful for his work at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences, as well as his contributions in the field of geography.

We are very excited to present that this year’s W.J. van den Bremen lecture will be given by Floris Alkemade, the Chief Government Architect (Rijksbouwmeester) of the Netherlands! Floris Alkemade works as an advisor of the State on the architecture and urban surroundings of state-owned property. Last year, he and his colleagues (Board of Government Advisors) presented Panorama Nederland, as briefly introduced at the Public Planning Lecture given by Kajsa Ollongren.

With Panorama Nederland the Board of Government Advisors advised the state on the urgent themes of today and how they will be present in the Netherlands of tomorrow. These urgent themes are, for example, an ageing population and the need for renewable energy sources.

Floris Alkemade will tell us all about Panorama Nederland on April 15 in the Groninger Forum! The lecture will take place between 12:00 AM and 13:00 PM. The walk-in starts at 11:30 AM.Since the Groninger Forum has a limited amount of seats, you need to sign up for the lecture via the following link: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLSdykjNnlr6T9WzO7z7dHkCegMkoYXdjUfBncTtkGy8vjHSltg/viewform
