Updates Corona Virus

With this page, we would like to inform you about Ibn Battuta’s policy regarding the Corona Virus. We would like to explain which measures have been taken and what the consequences will be for you as a member. The information will be updated regularly if needed. Please read the information carefully.

We hope you and your loved ones are all in good health. If not, we want to wish you lots of strength and love during this period. We hope to see all of you soon again!


All Ibn Battuta activities are canceled for the remainder of this academic year. In line with the measures taken by the University and the Government we have decided to cancel (or postpone when possible) all physical activities that were planned in the remainder of this academic year. In addition, the Coffee Room and Board Room will be closed until further notice. 

As soon as the university has an update or changes its policy regarding the cancelation of activities, we will review our policy as well and let you know as soon as possible. Therefore, check out the information on this page regularly. 

We will, however, try to organise as much other ways of meeting each other as we can. If you have any ideas on a fun digital activity, feel free to contact the board! 


These strange times can have a huge impact on your mental health, motivation and study. The University has organised a lot of initiatives to help you during this period!

In Nestor, you can find the tap Study Info, which is where you can find the following initiatives:

  • A free study group, in which you get connected with a couple of students and a trainer to motivate each other and make a planning for the week.
  • A free thesis group, which is the same idea, but focused on writing a thesis.
  • A free course that teaches you how to deal with postponing stuff and a lack of motivation during the corona crisis.
  • A free one-on-one conversation with a trainer from the Student Service Center that will give you personal advice on how to effectively study during the corona crisis. 

In the tap Study Info, you can also find the student psychologists and the initiative All Ears if students need someone to talk to. Study Advisors are also always available for a short chat or study related advice. The contact information of the Study Advisors of the Faculty of Spatial Sciences can be found here

Transfer General Members Assembly

Since all activities are canceled, this also means that the Transfer GMA on the 17th of June 2020 is postponed to September 2020, during the new Academic Year. The official board transfer will thus also take place in September 2020. In consultation with the Advisory Council and the Candidate Board, we decided to postpone the GMA instead of having a digital one. Asking questions or commenting on certain points can be more difficult during a digital GMA, and since we want to give you the opportunity to ask all questions you have, we decided on a physical GMA in September 2020. The new date will be announced to you as soon as possible.

Of course, the 59th board will stay fully informed about the measurements of the Government regarding the Corona Virus. As soon as it appears not to be possible to have a physical GMA in September, you will be informed about the form that the GMA will take place in.

To prepare the Candidate Board as good as possible, the transfer period will be prolonged during the summer period. During this summer period, the Candidate Board will take over the daily tasks of the 59th board. Together with the Advisory Council, the 59th board will decide on the specific date on which the Candidate Board will take over all of the daily tasks. All members will then be informed about this moment. Since the 59th board will still be responsible for all matters of the Association, they will hold a controlling role until they are discharged. In this way, the 59th board will stay around during the summer period to help the Candidate Board where necessary. During the coming Introduction Period of September 2020, the Candidate Board will be the face of the Association for the new first-year students.

Committees & Committee Applications

If committees take into account the measures of the RIVM, committee meetings can be done in person again. However, since keeping 1.5m distance can be difficult in student houses, we advise you to do your meetings digital via e.g. Zoom or Skype for as long as possible.

If your committee has an idea for a digital activity, quarantine tips, or anything else that we can manage to organize digitally, please contact the board!
