For First Year Students

For the Fresher’s

Ibn Battuta is a faculty association who organizes a lot of different activities related to all the studies of the Faculty of Spatial Sciences. Besides study related activities, Ibn Battuta also arranges fun and social activities like sport events, hitchhiking weekend,  socials, parties and travels. So as a member of the faculty association you can join a lot of activities, where you can meet up with the other students to have the best student time!

If you decide to become a member of Ibn Battuta you not only can join all activities, you also get a discount on the study books you buy! A membership costs only 14 euros a year. Once your membership is confirmed you get an e-mail with your credentials for the website. With this account you can sign up for activities, like the introduction weekend, but you can also find your supplies (summaries) for your study, see all the photos of all the events, you can see who signed up for activities and you can find all the other members in the online almanac.

In the first week of your studies the Faculty planned a few introduction days, but besides the introduction days it is possible to go on an introduction weekend with Ibn Battuta. This weekend takes place on Ameland (one of the Dutch islands for the people who do not know). This weekend is the perfect way of getting to know your fellow students but also to get to know the older members of Ibn Battuta. This weekend is not mandatory and we don’t oblige you to anything, but it is one of the best weekends of the year! A very good way to start your studies with your new friends!

Ibn Battuta also organizes a book sale for your study books twice a year. With this book sale you can buy all your study books in one go but you can also buy individual books. If you buy the books from Ibn Battuta you even get a discount on your books! You can buy the books here! The books will be delivered at  your house so you do not have to bring your books from the university to home anymore!  More information about the book sale dates and more you can find on this page and in the letter your received from us.

In short, if you want to know more about the association look around on the website. Here you can find a lot of useful information. If you still have any questions please send the board of Ibn Battuta an e-mail ( Of course you are always welcome to visit us in the coffee room where members of the board are welcoming you with a cup of coffee or tea! You can find the coffee room at the Duisenberg’s student plaza wing (5414.0013).

We hope we can welcome you soon as a member of Ibn Battuta!
